It is a program for sharing knowledge and scientific collaborations between countries in South America, West Africa and Europe. This project aims to contribute to integrated management of marine ecosystems by producing new monitoring and management methodologies, and sharing them with policy makers and the general public.

Plankt’Eco thus aims to develop management tools to operationalize the science of planktonic ecosystems by proposing a new configuration for fishing stock prediction models integrating planktonic communities, and to make it an identified and used tool. It is also about building a methodology to identify key planktonic zones, becoming a reference tool for monitoring the health of the Ocean.

Plankt’Eco also plans to implement new operational observation techniques and skills through an imaging equipment platform in Senegal under the responsibility of a consortium of West African research stakeholders. The project proposes a series of actions to strengthen the capacities of academic and scientific institutions in the countries of the Senegalese-Mauritanian region bordering the Canary Islands upwelling. During the project, the objective is to develop new research projects on the understanding of planktonic ecosystems adapted to regional and local research issues.

For young people and students, Plankt’Eco develops awareness-raising and participatory science actions with associations using innovative tools for discovering the invisible planktonic world. The aim is to raise awareness among the population of the key role played by plankton in the cycle of life on Earth.

For Plankton Planet, this is a collaborative project with the Senegalese association Nebeday, the aim of which is to raise awareness and train local populations in the preservation of their natural resources. The project is funded by the French Global Environment Facility and coordinated by the Tara Foundation.

Anna Oddone and Noan Le Bescot spent two weeks in Dakar and then in Sine Saloum. They provided a batch of seven Curiosities to the Nebeday team, intended for the observation of plankton and they led educational workshops and trained local facilitators in their use. They will also have to create educational materials and tools adapted to local populations with guides, explanatory sheets, videos, etc.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_masonry_media_grid css=”” grid_id=”vc_gid:1740396308617-cd8c3d7e-3b92-4″ include=”31757,31765,31759,31763,31747,31761,31755,31769,31771,31753,31767,31749,31751,31733,31741,31737,31735,31739,31743,31745,31773″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Anna Oddone and Noan Le Bescot spent two weeks in Dakar and then in Sine Saloum.
